چکیده

Purpose: Phase Sensitive Inversion Recovery (PSIR) is a method for generating T1-weighted images with a high contrast to noise ratio. Recent studies have shown that high quality PSIR data can be efficiently acquired at high magnetic field strengths using a 3D interleaved sequence in which two separate Turbo Field Echo (TFE) readouts are applied after each inversion pulse. We propose that the phase data associated with the second TFE readout of a 3D interleaved PSIR sequence can be used to form 3D maps of magnetic susceptibility via the recently developed quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) technique. In recent years, QSM in the human brain has become an area of intense research due to the sensitivity of susceptibility maps to iron deposits in tissue. In this study, we show that, despite the short echo times (TE) associated with the TFE readouts, PSIR phase data has sufficient signal to noise ratio to generate useful QSM data in vivo.

Phase-sensitive T1 inversion recovery imaging: a time-efficient interleaved technique for improved tissue contrast in neuroimaging.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE High tissue contrast and short acquisition time are desirable when scanning patients. The purpose of this report is to describe the implementation of a new technique for generating high gray matter (GM) and white matter (WM) contrast in a short scan time, make a quantitative evaluation of the contrast efficiency, and explore its potential applications in neuroimaging. M...

Simultaneous Time Interleaved MultiSlice (STIMS) for Rapid Susceptibility Weighted acquisition

T2* weighted 3D Gradient Echo (GRE) acquisition is the main sequence used for Susceptibility Weighted Imaging (SWI) and Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping (QSM). These applications require a long echo time (TE) to build up phase contrast, requiring a long repetition time (TR), and leading to excessively lengthy scans. The long TE acquisition creates a significant amount of unused time within e...

Phase sensitive inversion recovery with simultaneous dark fat rendering by virtual chemical inversion

Background On delayed-enhancement (DE-CMR), both fat and infarcted myocardium appear bright making them difficult to differentiate. Standard chemical shift fat-suppression (FatSatCS) consists of a fat-frequency selective saturation followed by readout. This approach is suboptimal in clinical DE-CMR sequences which typically have long readout times (100-200ms) and as a result, fat magnetization ...

Free-breathing combined three-dimensional phase sensitive late gadolinium enhancement and T1 mapping for myocardial tissue characterization.

PURPOSE To develop a novel MR sequence for combined three-dimensional (3D) phase-sensitive (PS) late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) and T1 mapping to allow for simultaneous assessment of focal and diffuse myocardial fibrosis. METHODS In the proposed sequence, four 3D imaging volumes are acquired with different T1 weightings using a combined saturation and inversion preparation, after administra...

3D flow-insensitive vessel wall imaging using T2PREP PSIR with SSFP

Introduction Double Inversion Recovery (DIR) [1] and Flow Sensitive Dephasing (FSD) [2] have been used to suppress arterial signal in vessel wall imaging. However, the “black blood” effect of DIR and FSD depends on blood flow, which makes these techniques less effective with slow or in-plane flow. In this work, T1 and T2 differences between blood and vessel wall were exploited using a T2-prepar...
